Melbourne Comedy Festival: Stefan Popovic & Fox Klein
March 28th 2008 11:08
I've recently been privileged enough to attend a few comedy shows in or around Melbourne (yes, that's right, that is the city I'm currently inhabiting, and trying to interact with the locals is my latest thing). The Comedy Festival is a wuuunderful time to cruise for boys/laugh at or with various funny humans/ have random and interesting occurences.
Last night a friend and I attended "Humourful", with Stefan Popovic. He was lovely, and his 45 min/ 1 hour show was delightful. Contrary to the review in The Age earlier this week, I found him entertaining and interactive. And also as full of energy as if he'd just sucked down a Red Bull or two- not, as they said 'delivering his show with little energy'. Props for audience interaction, and also for knowing how to win hearts- I mean c'mon, the guy gave us lollies at the end of the show. As if I wasn't won over.
Deserving enough to have a show at the Melbourne Town Hall? I'll leave that up to you, but I found him to be okay. Hardly worth the scathing review he got. It's only about $20, which is round about what most comedians at the Town Hall are charging, I believe. So lovelies, if you're that way inclined, go mosey on over there and give him a look-see. The information you'll need in your life to do so is here:

And P to the S: Ladies, I found him cute. And also abnormally tall. Be warned.
Next up was Fox Klein's delightful show, "I'm telling you for the first time....again". Fox was up at Trade's Hall, which is, according to my house mate comedian friend, 'where all the cool people hang'. Fox's show started at 10:30, which is normally late for me, but I was willing to sacrifice my early nights based on that fact that Fox Klein has a tendency to deliver quality comedy. And I was right. My room mate and I giggled our way through an hour-long show about kung-fu, bananas and condoms, and the ordeals of working at a supermarket. The total number of audience members only just hit double figures, which was nice and intimate, but I'd strongly encourage anyone with half a brain to see this guy. Fox is basically the funniest thing since sliced bread-and I know that sentence should be 'best thing since sliced bread', not 'funniest', but bite me, it's my review.
Here's Fox's little page-trust me here, anyone will find this show funny. From your 92 year old grandma to your teenage goth/emo half sister, Fox covers all bases. The guy should be much better known that what he is.

Also, if you have time, I've been told to give recommendations to the following shows:
-The Delusionists
-Comicide (very cute guy gave me a flier for it, therefore, I promote happily)
annnnd
-Deborah Frances-White in "How to get almost anyone to want to sleep with you" (Two Scottish guys told me it was fabulous-however, I believe one them was used for demonstration purposes during her show and was therefore slightly love struck).
